From a fan

A few months ago I ran across your mylifelynhejinian blog. I thought it was a brilliant form, if you were lyn hejinian. But you're not, so only the form is brilliant, that is, the form the blog-version give her poem, if it were an ongoing, daily account written by the author.

I recognized a few of the lines and was wondering what was going on, since Lyn had written a 1980's My Life and a 1990's My Life, perhaps this was the next decade. But it's not.

The form is becoming less brilliant as it breaks down. In the end, however, you are often choosing great lines of hers. Perhaps the better thing would be to identify the form up front, but that would loose some of the mystic and it's initial beauty.

Perhaps you should get permission from the publisher and the poet? This would make it more ethical, unless most of the work were your own, which it isn't, so it remains pretty unethical. ...

Thank you,
Frank Sauce

Rage against the lacuna

I guess one needs to know, rhetorically, where one stands.

No progress

Plagiarism is necessary. Progress implies it. [Debord]

Authorship, then, the inherent regress of poorly placed needs.

Notes, for starters

I take my reading seriously, as seriously as some might read my taking.

The years pass, years in which events were not lacking.

5 years, like wind chimes, what five years really means.

sending sentences to loved ones as horoscopes, birthday wishes, get well messages, etc.

blogs are public, social spaces -- "spaces in which meaning occurs" (LI 4): to read silently and in public, to publish a silent reading?

One hundred years after Duchamp, why hasn't straight appropriation become a valid, sustained or even tested literary practice?

also: "nutritionless" -- c: Quintilian's "innutrition" (Erasmus, Montaigne)

Reason looks for two, then arranges it from there (ML, 81)

"When you say, They are both reading the same book, do you mean the same writing but in different copies or do you mean in turns at the same copy." (ML, 93-94)
